You can make a difference!
The head of the church is our Lord Jesus Christ, the members are the ministers.
Ministry is at the heart of what it is to love the Lord. Whether you serve in
the church as a worship leader, through the church as a member of an organized ministry or individually on a person
to person basis, you are a minister.
Below are some of the organized ministries offered at Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal.
Acolytes
Acolytes assist our worship by carrying crosses, candles and banners and serving the vicar at the altar.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild serves behind the scenes to insure that the nave and sanctuary of the church are clean and prepared
for worship. The Altar Guild cleans and irons all linens, sets up for special services, prepares the wine and bread
for each service, cleans vestments, changes the hymn board, and reverently places consecrated bread and wine in
the Aumbry or returns it to the earth.
Music Ministry
Helping to lead worship music and practicing to present Sunday morning musical anthems is the purpose of the music
ministry.
Christian Care Ministry
The Christian Care Ministry (CCM) serves by assisting families with meals in the event of an illness or death in
the family.
Christian Education
Teaching the faith to our children and to adults is a rewarding ministry.
Feeding Ministry
All parishioners are encouraged to regularly bring food which can be distributed to the hungry. Donated food is
placed in a basket, and then taken to different food distribution centers in Owasso.
Greeters
Greeters meet our members and visitors each week and cheerfully distribute bulletins. The greeters are also responsible
for counting the members present each Sunday for our records.
Grounds Maintenance and Cleaning Crew
Our building and grounds require year round maintenance. The work required to maintain our facility includes mowing,
gardening, painting, plumbing, general maintenance, and regular cleaning.
Lay Readers and Eucharistic Ministers
Lay Readers and Eucharistic Ministers (also known as Chalice Bearers) are licensed by the diocese after a training
course. These ministers are specially trained in the proclamation of Holy Scripture and in appropriately and reverently
presenting the cup to communicants during worship.
Nursery
Children are essential to the fullness and wholeness of our community and the care of our youngest members is a
top priority.
Oblations
Oblationers are those who volunteer to bring the bread and wine to the altar during the Sunday morning service
and then take up the collection from the congregation.
Refreshments
Each Sunday we gather together in the Common Room to have a time of fellowship. All members of the church are scheduled
to bring and serve refreshments. Our Sunday refreshments often include cookies or donuts, coffee, juice and sometimes
cakes or other goodies to celebrate a special event.
Registrar
The registrar of a church is responsible for recording and maintaining records for all the members of the church.
These records include the recording of all baptisms, confirmations, marriages, and deaths. In addition, the registrar
transfers members in and out of the church and is responsible for contacting other churches to confirm a members
records and having them transferred to the Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal.
Supplies Coordinator
Keeping track of all the supplies needed to run a church can be a difficult task. Paper plates, napkins, toilet
paper, soda pop, etc., are constantly being used and must be inventoried and replaced when needed.
Wardens and Vestry
The Senior Warden of Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal is responsible to the vicar as an advisor and is the leader
of the vestry in the vicar's absence. The Senior Warden is ultimately responsible for the financial viability of
the church and is considered the lay leader of the church.
The Junior Warden of the Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal is responsible for the physical upkeep of the church
and its grounds. He is the lay coordinator for any expansion, improvement or repair project.
Also serving on the vestry are the Treasurer and the Clerk of the Vestry.
Vestry members are elected annually by the church to represent us in legal and financial matters. The Vestry is
also responsible for making decisions which affect our physical plant. There are four elected members of the vestry.
Computer Ministry
The Computer Ministry serves the Church by creating and maintaining the Church's website and email lists, as well
as helping to maintain and upgrade the Church's computer systems and network. The Computer Ministry also serves
the community by helping Church members and community members with computer-related issues.
